Rummy rules for 101 Pool Rummy

• The 101 pool rummy game is played by 2 to 6 players.

• All 13 cards must be arranged in valid sequences, or sequences and sets.

• The 201 pool rummy format is played by 2 to 6 players.
• A 52-deck plus one printed joker is used for two players, and two standard decks plus 2 printed jokers are used in case of more players.
• All players are dealt 13 cards at the beginning of each deal.
• All 13 cards must be arranged in valid sequences, or sequences and sets.
• Players can use both printed and wild card jokers to form impure sequences and sets.
• Once all the cards are arranged, the player should discard an unwanted card and then declare their hand.
• You must keep your points less than 201 to stay in the game.
• The player who reaches 201 points gets eliminated.
• The player who is left alone at the table at the end is declared the winner.

Both 101 Pool Rummy and 201 Pool Rummy are popular variations of Pool Rummy, with the main difference being the starting points and the winning criteria. In both games, the goal is to accumulate as few penalty points as possible over multiple deals.

In each deal of the pool rummy game, the winner gets zero points. The losing players get penalty points that are calculated by adding the points of ungrouped cards in their hands. The values of the cards are given below:

• All face cards (Ks, Qs, Js) and aces (A’s) are worth 10 points each.
• All numbered cards (2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s, 10s) are worth the same as their face values. For example, a 7 of any suit is worth 7 points.
• All jokers (printed and wild) are worth zero points.

The Winning Player’s Score: The player who groups all his/her cards into valid combinations first is declared the winner of the deal. The winner gets zero points and receives chips from losing players based on their scores.

The Losing Player’s Score: The points of all the ungrouped cards are added together to calculate the losing player's score in a deal. For example, if the player has ungrouped cards 7♥, A♠, and 6♣, the point calculation will be:
Score = Value of 7♥ + Value of A♠ + Value of 6♣ In this case, 7 + 10 + 6 = 23 points. According to the pool rummy rules, the player is eliminated when the score of the player reaches the maximum value of the pool. The formula for calculating winnings is as follows:

Winnings = (Entry fee X Number of players) – Rummy.com fee.
Suppose 5 players are playing a game of pool rummy online with a fixed entry fee of ₹300 each. The prize pool of the game will be 300 x 5 = ₹1500. The winner of the game will get the following amount as the prize: ₹1500 – Rummy.com fee.

Split Option
Using the “Split” option, players are allowed to split the prize money, depending on their drop counts. In 101 pool, the split option can be used when the total score of all the players at the end of the final deal is greater than or equal to 61. Similarly, in 201 pool, players can opt for this feature when the total score is greater than or equal to 151.
However, this option works only when there is a mutual understanding among all the players involved. If a player refuses to split the prize money, the option cannot be used.

In a pool rummy game, any player can exit a deal by using the “Drop” option. There are two types of drops in a game of pool rummy: first drop and middle drop. First drop happens when a player drops without picking the first card and incurs a penalty of 20 points. Middle drop is when a player drops anytime after picking the first card, which costs them 40 points.

The biggest mistake you can make in rummy is making a wrong declaration. By making a wrong declaration, you not only lose the game but lose it with the biggest margin possible. So never make that mistake. Before declaring your hand, double-check to ensure that it includes at least 1 pure sequence and a second sequence and that all the other cards are arranged in sequences or sets.
